[vc_row][vc_column][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner][vc_column_text]In 2000, SABE discovered that people with disabilities were not exercising their right to vote and wanted to give everyone the opportunity to vote. To address this need, the GoVoter project was established.
The National Technical Assistance Center for Voting and Cognitive Access helps protection and advocacy systems, election officials and people with disabilities to make voting accessible for all citizens. The Center is managed and operated by leaders in the self-advocacy movement.
GoVoter Project’s Two Primary Components
To help encourage more people with disabilities to vote, GoVoter established two primary areas of focus:
- Training: GoVoter provides distance training to self-advocacy groups to help them more effectively educate people with disabilities on the voting process and prepare them to vote. The training is provided through the Voter Education Toolkit, which includes a Trainer Manual, PowerPoint slides, handouts, tips for successful training, and supporting videos.
- Surveys: The GoVoter Survey is designed to learn about the experience voters with disabilities have when voting to better understand where issues exist and how to address them. Survey results help educate the public on voting barriers and allow SABE to improve its voter education training.

SABE GoVoter Survey 2022 English
Let us know how your voting experience has been whether by mail-in or absentee, in-person by Early or on Election Day. The SABE GoVoter Project wants to know if you had any problems or questions about your voting experience from registering to vote, getting information about candidates, the attitude of poll workers, and issues to casting your ballot.
How do we use this information? We take all the completed surveys and report the results to share with Election Officials at the federal, state, and local levels. We also work with Civil Rights groups like self advocacy groups and organizations that help voters with disabilities share what we have learned and make it better for everyone to participate in the voting process.

The Voter Education Toolkit can help your self advocacy group teach others about voting rights and the voting process. The Toolkit has many different parts, the most important being the Facilitator or Trainer Manual. Distance Training
Between 2002 and 2004 SABE has taught over 20 state self-advocacy groups on how to lead voter education training for people with disabilities in their state in partnership with the P&As. The SABE GoVoter Project continues to educate other states.
States that have completed the Distance Training include Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Mississippi, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennslyvania, South Carolina, and Wisconsin.

That is what this world expects me to be.
But I want so much more
