Who We Are

Self-Advocates becoming Empowered (SABE) is the nationwide organization for self-advocates. People with lived experience come together to advocate and educate about the issues that are important to them. 

What We Believe In

• People with disabilities should be treated as equals.
• People with disabilities should be given the same decisions, choices, rights, responsibilities, and chances to speak up and empower themselves as non-disabled people.
• People with disabilities should be able to learn from their mistakes like everyone else.

What We Are Currently Advocating For and Work We Are Currently Doing

• Elimination of institutions and move to community integration
• Affordable and accessible housing for all people in our communities
• Accessible and affordable healthcare for all people
• Equal employment opportunities and equal pay for all people (eliminate 14c/sub-minimum wage)
• Educating people with and without disabilities about options, choices, and alternatives to guardianship 
• Working on legislation that affects the lives of people with disabilities
• Advocating for individualized services for all people with disabilities;
• Educating and implementing flexible and available accessible transportation (airlines, trains, buses) for all people in the our communities
• Educating people – all people – about disability issues that are important in their lives
